#Book #Review *Hell or High Water*

Disclaimer - This book was provided to me free of charge from Net Galley in return for an honest review. All review opinions are my own and were in no way influenced by being provided with the book at no charge.

In a world on the brink
Six men. One sunken Spanish galleon. Millions in gold and silver coins lying on the ocean floor. And a past that refuses to let the guys of Deep Six Salvage forget the Navy SEAL motto: the only easy day was yesterday...
There's more than one kind of treasure
The nation's security has always been CIA agent Olivia Mortier's top priority. But a mission-gone-wrong has begun to make her wonder if there's more to life than risking hers.
And more than one secret at the bottom of the sea
Only two things could make Leo Anderson abandon his hunt for the legendary lost ship, La Santa Christina, and return to the world of weapons and warfare he swore to leave behind: a capsule of enriched uranium, lost on the ocean floor, and a plea for assistance from the one woman he can't seem to forget...
As much as I loved this book, I have to admit the beginning started very slowly for me. I don't know why. It just seemed like it was a "lull" rather than a "boom" to start with. It didn't exactly suck me right in from the beginning and I actually had to make myself push through the first couple of chapters.
What I thought was going to be a ho-hum ride with a group of ex-SEALS turned into an action packed page turner. And let's not forget some truly great romantic tension. Honest. In the world of romance, there's either romantic tension or there's some sloppy story filled with paragraphs that the tension simply doesn't build up. This is NOT that kind of book. It worked.
Every fan of military romance needs to give this one a read. Don't let the beginning fool you - it's a great ride :)

#Book #Tour & #Review *A PROMISE KEPT*

by K.S. David

Quinn McGuire only wanted to lay her mother to rest. She planned to hustle out of Hayden County, Kentucky once it was all done. The town held nothing but bad memories for her. She’d never forget the echoes of children’s taunts calling her poor trash and whispers about her daddy's crimes. With the exception of her best friend, Jack Lassiter, there was no one in Hayden she cared about - and she’d even been hiding from him for the last two years. But in less than 24-hours after her arrival, Quinn’s brother gets arrested for murder, derailing her plans for a quick exit. Quinn has to find a way to clear his name, but shadows from her past threaten her efforts and her sanity. As she moves closer to the truth, she just may be putting herself in the path of the real killer.

Jack was an intentional man who rarely did anything that didn’t serve a purpose. When he trained his shrewd green eyes upward, I realized it had been his aim to touch me. My reaction to his hug earlier hadn’t gone unnoticed.

Taking the swing next to him, I pushed off gently and moved back and forth.

“How long are you going to be home this time?” he asked. There was no reservation in his voice - no indication there had been a break or shift in our friendship. His easy way belied the fact that we hadn’t spoken in over two years.

Shrugging, I said, “Dunno, a couple of weeks I guess. I figure it will take that long to settle Ava’s affairs - sell the house and do something with the salon.”

The answer seemed to satisfy him, and an awkward silence settled between us as an afternoon breeze whistled and tossed dry leaves across the yard. We shared the same birth date, but at thirty-eight, there was wisdom in Jack’s face that made him seem wiser than his years.

I sighed and looked at the sky before speaking. “I’m sorry for not staying in touch.”

He took a sip of coffee and nodded toward me. “And.”

“And…” I hesitated, “you are… my best friend, and you deserve more than that.”

He rolled his eyes. “And... you are going to tell me why you disappeared without a word for two years.”

Taking a deep breath, I shook my head slowly before looking at him. “No,” I said quietly. “Not yet. I will tell you one day but not right now.”

Going Rogue
Ribbons and Rogues # 1
By: Jessica Jefferson
Releasing May 6, 2015
Soul Mate Publishing

The ribbon means you have it all – beauty, wealth, power ... everything but love.

Miss Meredith Castle leaves behind everything she knows to join her great aunt in London and become leader of the infamous girls’ club, The Ribbons. She’s willing to make whatever sacrifices necessary to redeem her ailing mother, even if that means leaving her childhood love behind to scale London’s social ladder.

When Derek Weston’s best friend receives the offer of a lifetime, he encourages her to take it. Unwilling to let her go completely, he chases after her, only to find the sweet girl he loved replaced by a spoiled debutante. A broken man, he leaves London to start a new life at sea.

Five years later, Meredith realizes her reign as Queen of the Ball is about to come to an end, if she doesn’t do something to fix her tarnished reputation. Pairing up with the Season’s newest wallflower seems like the perfect plan, until she finds out her demure friend is being pursued by the very man she thought she’d never see again. Only, Derek Weston isn’t who he used to be. He’s inherited a Scottish title and grown into an arrogant man she barely recognizes; yet in her heart, she knows she still loves him. Torn between her past and an uncertain future, can she find a way back to the life she used to have and the boy who once adored her?

“You couldn’t love me.” Meredith’s shoulders fell. “You haven’t seen me for over a year—too much has changed. It’s too late.”
“A year means nothing when I’ve known you for a lifetime,” he argued.
“A year is a lifetime.” She shook her head. “I’m not the person I used to be.”
“Of course you are. After you come home—”
“Middlebury is no longer my home and I can’t go back. There’s nothing for me there.”
“Except me?” He’d meant it as a bold declaration of his intentions. But his confidence was wavering and he knew the words were as much a question as they were anything else.
“Don’t you see—I can’t marry you.” Her words cut like a knife. “I’ve a real chance here. Aunt Cynthia thinks I can be a duchess. An actual duchess! Can you imagine? Think of all I can do for my mother.”
“I had no idea you held such lofty aspirations,” he said quietly, the ring tucked tightly within his fist.
She looked down. “You said it yourself once—I deserve more than what life in the village has to offer me. How can I settle for being the wife of an officer when I have a real chance at a title?”
He dropped the ring on the floor, the weight of it finally too much to bear. “Somewhere along the way you seem to have forgotten what’s truly important, Mere.”
“And what’s that?”
“Love, friendship, loyalty…”
She shook her head. “My mother followed love and look where that got her. She has nothing now but a crumbling house and stacks of bills. It takes far more than love to make a life—it takes a fortune.”
And then he knew. This shell of a woman was certainly not his Meredith. His Meredith would never be so callous—so ruthless. It was her eyes, hair, and smile—but not her spirit.
The girl he loved was nowhere to be found in the woman in front of him.
Derek cleared his throat. “You’ve changed.”
She looked at him. “We’re just too different now. I had hoped that it would be easy, that you’d just forget about me over time. Why do you think I stopped writing all those months ago?”
It was the final blow to their friendship. Meredith hadn’t been as busy with her lessons as he’d thought. He knew the truth now—perhaps he’d known it all along. She hadn’t been too busy to write, she’d been too busy for him. She’d been trying to end their friendship amicably by simply ignoring the fact it had ever existed.
“I shouldn’t have come here,” he said quietly.
“Probably not.” She wrapped her arms around her middle, just as she had when she was younger. His heart ached for the memory.
He needed to leave, to be as far from this place as he could get. But there was one thing he couldn’t leave without.
Taking her by the arms, he pulled her close, and kissed her fiercely.
She didn’t resist.
She returned his kiss with just as much emotion, her arms snaking their way up his chest. Before she’d left, he’d stolen a brief kiss. The chaste exchange hadn’t lasted but a second, both of them so inexperienced. But he’d spent nights dreaming about it, imagining all he’d do differently given the opportunity again.
Now, she kissed him with a skill that he didn’t bother to question. He knew someone else had taught her, but he didn’t care. He wanted her to remember him, remember this moment. He kissed her with every intention of scarring a memory into her consciousness so that after this, every kiss she’d ever receive would pale in comparison to his. He poured every ounce of himself into it—every feeling he’d ever hidden, all the love he’d ever felt for her. His tongue plunged deeper, exploring the secret places inside her mouth.
This kiss was the requiem for what was to become his past.
When he felt her knees start to buckle, he knew it was time. Derek pulled away. His gaze locked briefly with hers. Her eyes were heavy with desire and her lips were red and swollen from the pleasurable assault.
He said nothing. Instead, he walked straight for the door— ready to leave the place where his vision for the future had been shattered into thousands of irreparable shards.
And he’d be damned before he tried to pick them up.

Summer's Family Affair
by Cynthia Gail

Jenny Cohen defines successful independence: she put herself through college, couldn’t ask for better friends, owns a consulting firm, wears designer clothes, and just moved into her dream home . . . But she’s alone, except for her ailing mother whom she supports in a nursing home. As the marketing consultant for Chester, Dorsey & Tanner, she’s surrounded by male attention. Too bad it’s the overly-protective big-brother type.

Architect, Craig Stone, hasn’t looked at another woman since his wife passed away four years ago. His time is taken—building a career while trying to be both mother and father to his eight-year-old son. But when his appointment with the largest development firm in Nashville is double-booked with a black-haired beauty, he finds himself reaching for new possibilities.

The attraction sets off more fireworks than the Fourth of July. Yet, their relationship is riddled with issues neither one of them expected. Somewhere in the middle they must find a way to compromise or let go of a chance for love they may never find again.

Jeffry started sifting through his calendar. Jenny casually peeked from the corner of her eye as Brandon led Craig through the lobby.

He was watching her. When his slow perusal drifted back up from her feet, his big blue eyes met hers and she melted on the spot. He’d instantly looked contrite, then winked as he passed by. She had goose bumps, despite the heat she felt from his gaze. He gave off an electric tension she’d never felt before.

She shook her head, shifting her thoughts back to the calendar while watching him disappear around the corner. “Tomorrow at noon. Two full hours. You’ll need to have a light lunch brought in,” she said.

Jeffry didn’t answer.

“I know it’s open. That’s where your temp had Mr. Stone originally.”

“How did you know that?” He chuckled, then waved his hand. “Oh, don’t answer. Yes, it’s available and I’ll push his one-thirty back, so you can have the full two hours. I’ll let Jack know you’ll be here and we’re serving food. He’ll be back in the office and might want to sit in.”

He gave her a conspiratorial grin. “By the way, his name is Craig and I got the distinct impression he liked the shoes, too. If you know what I mean?”

“Goodbye, Jeffry. I’ll see you tomorrow.” She turned and stepped onto the open elevator. Once the door closed, she leaned her head against the back wall, let out a long sigh, and willed her heartbeat to slow.

"Please trust me, Grace." His voice soothed. Henri’s lips disappeared for the moment and she started to glance down towards her feet where he’d just been when her vision went black.
"What the…"
"Just let go." Ryan’s voice near her ear as he pulled the blindfold over her eyes, quickly joined by Henri’s sing-song accent brought a strong chill and shiver. “Trust me, my love. I would never, ever hurt you.”
"Yes, Grace, let go. Let us do this for you."
When one set of lips encircled her nipple and another started nibbling up the inside of her thigh, she finally did just that, sighing in relief. Letting the two men take over, giving into the moment, Grace’s entire body felt licked by flames up as the lips became insistent and the bondage chafed at her wrists.
"Ah shit, Ryan," she mumbled, not even sure what she meant but since she was in a “going with it” frame of mind, she said it.
"I’m gonna make it okay, I promise." Her husband’s voice had gone husky with lust.
She shivered, sighed and bent one leg up, allowing Henri full access to her still wet center from their earlier encounter. In a quick movement, the men changed positions. Now Ryan’s lips caressed her pussy, pulling her clit into his mouth, sucking and tasting her. She started to shift her hips, realizing he had to be tasting Henri. But the constant suction and pressure on her flesh combined nearly sent her over the edge again. Then Henri’s mouth closed over her nipple, his teeth, a quick nip, the sharp pain making her squeal and her body pulse with a sudden, knee jerk orgasm.
"Mmmmm," Ryan’s voice echoing between her legs her flush red from head to toe.
"Jesu, that was gorgeous," Henri whispered in her ear, his lips trailing around her jaw line. He ran a hand up and down her stomach past her rock hard nipples, just brushing them as her body calmed. She flexed her wrists against their bonds, wanting to touch all the male flesh around her, whimpering in frustration. But the warm friction felt pleasant, sexy even, and she arched her back, on fire with urgency.
"I want to be inside you Grace." Ryan’s was hoarse voice near her ear.
"No, I want to be inside you." Henri’s lips tickled her other ear. Grace grinned.
"Well, boys, we have a dilemma." She snuggled down into the soft pillows again, skin pebbling in anticipation. "Untie me and let’s see if we can solve it." The words coming from her mouth surprised even her. A quick flick of a wrist and her hands were free but the blindfold remained in place. Hands pulled her up, lips covered hers. She was no longer able to determine which of the amazing men was doing what, which somehow seemed appropriate.
